Assessment

Tell Me About Your Photograph

Send a copy of the damaged print and a short description. I review each photograph individually and follow up about what restoration can reasonably do. Sending an image is a request for assessment, not a promise that all damage can be restored.

Email a copy of the photograph

The working contact method is email. Attach a scan or a clear photograph of the damaged print to a message sent to:

What to include

  • Your name and a reply email address
  • A short description of the photograph (family portrait, wedding photograph, childhood print, and so on)
  • The damage as you see it: tear, water stain, fading, crease, missing area, or several of these
  • An attached scan or photograph of the print

How to attach the photograph

Use a full-quality JPEG, PNG, or TIFF when you can. Include the damaged edges rather than cropping them off. Do not apply filters or automatic enhancement. If the print is in an album and cannot be removed safely, photograph it in place, as squarely and evenly lit as you can.

If the file is too large for ordinary email, send a smaller preview first and we can arrange another way to receive the full scan.

Submitting a photograph does not guarantee that all damage can be restored. Restoration possibilities depend on the condition of the original and the visual information that remains.
